17th Vacation Bible School

The objectives of the Vacation Bible School (VBS) are as follows:

1.      To reach out to the non-Christian children in the neighbourhood and to those of our loved ones and friends.

2.      To build up our children’s faith and encourage them to evangelize.

3.      To lay a good groundwork for future VBS.

4.      To develop potential helpers/teachers.

Our annual Vacation Bible School was held in person in Calvary Pandan from 20 to 23 November in 2023. We are thankful to God to have the opportunity to minster to 60 over children (from mainly 6 to 12 years old) during the 3 day-VBS. The theme was “Jesus is coming again – are you ready?” (based upon Matthew 25). Thank God for providing Pr David (P4 to P6),  Sis Hadassah (P1 to P3) and Sis Gracia (K2) as speakers and for about 30 church members who stepped up to serve as group leaders and helpers. Through the messages, singspiration, games, craft, video show and gospel sharing time, the gospel was shared and reinforced. Please pray for the salvation of the unsaved and for the saved, that they may be faithful servants and be ever ready for judgement when the Lord Jesus returns as the Glorious Judge one day.

Truth Children's Fellowship 2023

The objectives of the TCF are:

1) to evangelize boys and girls with the pure gospel of Jesus Christ and

2) to establish them in the Word of God for Christian living.

Thank God for His faithfulness to TCF since we started in 2007. In 2023, TCF celebrated its 16th Anniversary on 25 February 2023. The theme was “We are Ambassadors for Christ.” Rev Dennis gave the exhortation from 2 Corinthians 5:20: “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ,

as though God did beseech you by us:  we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.” In commemoration of TCF 16th Anniversary, the TCF children presented a song item “The King’s Business” and a photo slide show about how God blessed TCF in 2022 was shown.

Since Singapore will lower its DORSCON level from Yellow to Green from 13 February 2023, all our meetings are back to normal. Our weekly program includes singspiration, message, counsel time and refreshment. Each week we have about 18 children and 6 teachers. The only reminders that we been through a terrible pandemic was the few children who still donned masks during the meetings. We continued to have quarterly quizzes and gift exchanges although there were no plans to bring back regular games and library time yet.

Thank God for the faithful service of all the speakers, teachers and helpers. The children heard 31 messages under the following four themes in 2023 -  "The Seven Cs of History" (Term 1), "The Christian Soldier" (Term 2), "Parables of Jesus" (Term 3) and "Lessons from Proverbs" (Term 4).

Other major events in TCF calendar 2023 included:

  • 27 May: Outing to Pandan Reservoir
  • 5 August: Missions Special program
  • 30 September: Children’s Day Special program
  • 25 November: Combined TCF and VBS outing to Faber Green & Faber Hill Playground

Please pray about inviting children of your love ones and friends to TCF. TCF welcomes all children, from ages 4 to 12, to hear the gospel and to learn God’s Word. Invitations can be found on the display table every Sunday. May God help us to be ambassadors for Christ.

Junior Sunday School Report 2023

Colossians 2:6-7, “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”

Our objectives (based on Col 2:6-7) is to lead the children:

1.               to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ (Receive)

2.               to obey God and be a good testimony (Walk)

3.               to a vibrant spiritual life (Rooted & Built up)

4.               to a clear understanding of the basic Christian doctrines and teachings in the Word of God (Stablished and abounding)

Looking back on 2023, we are filled with thanksgiving unto God. It was only by God’s grace and mercy that we could continue to minister to the children, the parents and the teachers in Truth B-P Church. Praise God for how He enabled the Junior Sunday School (JSS) committee to serve Him in 2023.  This committee consisted of Bro Eric (Young Teens superintendent), Sis Alice (Junior superintendent), Sis Jyh Cheau (Pre-school superintendent), and myself (Geneal & Primary superintendent). Thank God also for Rev Dennis and Pr David who has been sitting in to advise and support this important ministry to the children.

Our church and JSS theme for 2023 remained the same as last year’s, namely “Saved by Faith, Live by Faith” (Galatians 3:11). To help the children better understand the Doctrine of Salvation, the children had three Open Sunday messages by  Rev Dennis Kwok on  “Christ made us free” (March 12), “Free not to sin but be crucified in the flesh” (May 14) and “Free to serve one another by love” (November 5).

The first major JSS event of 2023 was the YT cum Jr retreat (15 to 16 March) during the March school holidays. What was so significant about this retreat was that it was the first stay in 2-day-1-night retreat since Covid-19. The theme was “Ask for the old paths…and walk therein” taken from Jeremiah 6:16: “Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls.” Pr David was the speaker of the four main messages. Thank God that we could have this retreat to exhort the youths to walk the old paths and for their good feedback at the end of the retreat. May the Lord continue to move the youths in our church to attend this year’s retreat and also to provide sufficient teachers/helpers to help out.

Another major JSS event was the Teachers’ retreat cum training on 29 June. During the first training session, Pr David spoke on “The Qualifications of a Teacher.” A second training was held on 13 November. Pr David touched on “The Theology of Teaching.” These two teachers’ training sessions were a part of a training program which will be taught over the next few years. In summary, the training program can be broken down into three main parts, namely “the teacher”, “the teaching” and “the taught.” God willing, our teachers will be better equipped to teach God’s Word to the children by the twice-a-year training session.

Other major events in the JSS calendar in 2023 included Combined Department Easter program (9 April), Combined Department Reformation program (29 October), Vacation Bible School (20 to 22 November), Combined Department Christmas program (24 December) and Promotion Sunday (31 December). Thank God for seeing the JSS through 2023. May God continue to bless this ministry and help the children to know Him and to make Him known.

Junior Sunday School Report 2021

Colossians 2:6-7: “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”

Our objectives (based on Colossians 2:6-7) are to lead the children:

1. to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ (Receive)
2. to obey God and be a good testimony (Walk)
3. to a vibrant spiritual life (Rooted & Built up)
4. to a clear understanding of the basic Christian doctrines and teachings in the Word of God (Stablished and abounding)

In 2021, the Junior Sunday School (JSS) was still faced with much uncertainties and many changes because of the pandemic. Thank God for His grace and mercies that helped us overcome these challenges. After using Zoom for about a year in 2020, most of the JSS teachers, parents and even the children were very well versed in using Zoom by 2021. Zoom is a very useful tool, but having JSS lessons over Zoom is always a last resort. Thank God that for the most part of 2021, we could have physical JSS classes in church. However, in order to slow down the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, the government did not allow in-person religious classes for a few weeks in May, July, August and October. Thus, JSS lessons had to be via Zoom during that period. Otherwise, we provided Zoom for children only on a case-by case basis (i.e. for children who were unwell and could not come to church or whose parents did not allow them to come to church, etc).

As the church continued with “Walking Worthy of Our Calling” as the theme in 2021, the JSS followed suit. In line with this theme, Rev Dennis Kwok spoke to the children on “Walk not as other Gentiles walk” (3 Jan), “Walk in love” (16 May) and “Walk as Wise” (7 November) over 3 Open Sundays. Ng Boon Choo and Liz Yeo assisted him by leading the children in message related activities.

Due to the pandemic, we could not have a 2-day-1-night Young Teens-cum-Junior Retreat in church. But thank God that we could still have a 2-and-a-half-day Retreat from 18 to 19 March. The theme was “Drawing Closer to God.” Rev Zhu Jian Wei was our speaker. Thank God for a blessed Retreat with 13 fulltime and 2 part-time attendees, and 3 helpers. May the Lord help everyone to apply the lessons learnt.

We also thank and praise God for leading us through the other major events in our JSS calendar in 2021. These included the General Meetings (7 March and 7 November, prerecorded messages), Combined Department Easter Programme (4 April), Combined Department Reformation Programme (31 October), Vacation Bible School (23 to 24 November, via Zoom), Combined Department Christmas Programme (19 December) and Promotion Sunday (26 December). Without God, we can do nothing. As the pandemic rages on, please continue to pray for the ministry of the JSS. May the LORD continue to keep us faithful.

Truth Children's Fellowship 2021

Committee: Eld Winston (advisor), Boon Choo and Tina Wong

The Truth Children’s Fellowship (TCF) is a ministry that reach out to children from age four to twelve.

The objectives of the TCF are:
1.            To evangelize boys and girls with the pure gospel of Jesus Christ.
2.            To establish them in the Word of God for Christian living.

Thank God for enabling TCF to meet uninterrupted throughout 2021. As Covid-19 Pandemic rages on, we did have to continue to make adjustments to our program but as much as possible, when the government rules allowed for it, we would meet physically in church and then provide Zoom to those children who needed it. We started the year with about 13 children and about 4 to 5 teachers regularly at each TCF meeting. Praise God that in spite of the pandemic, we ended the year with about 18 children regularly attending TCF.

TCF celebrated its 14th Anniversary on 27 February with over 30 attendees. Rev Dennis Kwok spoke on “Praise Ye the LORD” (Ps 117). We also watch a photo slide show of the TCF Key events in 2020. Everyone who came received a painted rock each with the words “Praise Ye the LORD” as door gifts.  These were paper weights hand painted by the TCF children. While we missed the close fellowship over refreshment as we had in the past but we are still thankful to God that we could still meet physically to remember God’s goodness to TCF even in the times of the pandemic.

Due to the pandemic, bi-weekly library, bi-weekly games and the twice-yearly outings continued to be on hold in 2021. Physical meetings were also not possible all the time. Some of our meetings had to be moved on to Zoom in May, July, Aug and Oct because the government tightened their rules. Both our Missions Program (7 Aug) and Children’s Day Program (1 Oct) had to be moved on to Zoom as well. Although meeting on Zoom does limit our interaction with the children but thank God for this means to minister to the children.

By the grace of God, TCF still meet every Saturday, 3.30 to 5 pm (except on School holidays and public holidays) in church. Please continue to pray for our ministry. Do also invite the children of your unbelieving relatives and friends to come to TCF and hear the good news. Invitations to TCF can be found on the display table every Lord’s Day.

Truth Children's Fellowship 2016

Committee: Eld Winston (advisor), Boon Choo and Tina Wong

Objectives of the Truth Children’s Fellowship (TCF):

1. To evangelize boys and girls with the pure gospel of Jesus Christ.

2. To establish them in the Word of God for Christian living.

The TCF is a fellowship group for children from age four to twelve. The year 2016 saw a regular average attendance of nineteen children and nine teachers. 75% of the children who attend regularly are children of our church members, with the other 25% from non-Christian families or from other churches. These children usually need transport to and from TCF. Thank God for a few church members who have been faithfully providing transport.

Since 2015, we have been having two concurrent messages (one for the older children and one for the younger). This continued through 2016. The messages were “The Seven C’s of History" (Term 1), "The Ten Commandments" (Term 2), "New Testament Survey" (Term 3) and "Jesus' Teachings and Miracles from the Gospel of Matthew" (Term 4). Besides weekly messages, we also had fortnightly games sessions alternating with library time, and quarterly quiz and gift exchange. Thank God for every opportunity to minister to the children. Please continue to pray for our ministry.

Preparation for TCF 9th Anniversary celebration started many weeks in advance. We roped in the TCF children to make the door gifts. The anniversary program on 27th February 2016 included a message by Pastor Dennis on the theme "All Things Work Together for Good," a song presentation of “Romans 8:28” by the children and a slide show. As we watched the slide show, we realised we had so much to thank and praise God for. God has made all things work together for good and seen TCF through the past years. As a testimony of God’s goodness, the TCF children also presented the “Romans 8:28” song during worship service the following day.

2016 was another busy year for TCF, with special activities such as Outing to the Children Little Museum (28th May), Missions Special Program (13th Aug), Children’s Day Special Program (8th Oct) and a combined TCF/VBS outing (below) to Bukit Batok Nature Park (26th Nov).

If you have non-Christian relatives, neighbours and friends who have children from age four to twelve, do invite them to TCF. We meet every Saturday (except on School holidays and public holidays), from 3.30 to 5 pm. Invitations can be found on the display table every Lord’s Day and on the TCF noticeboard.
